This year’s fair also honors the Route 66 Centennial, celebrating 100 years of America’s most iconic highway. Since the Illinois State Fairgrounds sit along the historic Route 66 corridor, the 2026 fair theme is “Miles of Smiles,” recognizing the road that began in Illinois and the memories it has created for generations.
Visitors can also take advantage of a special Route 66 promotion. Through August 20, guests who visit the Illinois State Museum’s “Miles of Memories: Stories of Route 66” exhibit can receive a voucher for one free adult weekday admission to the Illinois State Fair.
